Family Jobs

Family job duties are an important part of Providence Nursery School’s cooperative culture. For the school to run smoothly, families and jobs should be well matched. You can state three preferences on the Job Preference Form. We also are interested in your ideas for new jobs.

Families will receive their job assignments in August. Because we have such an involved community, some of the jobs listed may already be assigned. If none of your preferences are available, the Vice President of Administration will contact you to discuss other options.

Social Events Chairperson

  • Organize refreshments, and help with set-up and clean-up for Back-to School night (September), Open House (January), and Spring Coffee (May).
  • Organize our December Holiday Shop and end of year celebration Organize snacks for board meetings

Social Events Committee (4)

  • Prepare or buy food for special events and board meetings
  • Help with set up and clean up for the Spring Coffee, Back-to-School night, and the end of the year celebration
  • Help with December Holiday Shop and end of year celebration

Enrichment Coordinator

(This job is usually a good match for someone in the 3s, 3/4s or 4s class as enrichment activities take place on Wednesdays).

  • Schedules and coordinates bimonthly specials events (puppet shows, creative movement, etc.)
  • Arranges payment for the event with the Treasurer
  • Helps with set-up/clean-up for Wed. events as necessary

Bulletin Board Coordinator

  • Decorate and maintain an attractive seasonal display on school bulletin board each month.
  • Organize and prepare student artwork for the annual PNS display at a local library

Photography Coordinator

(This job requires a digital camera. Most work is done at school, but some work needs to be done on a home computer. The parent should have a familiarity with basic graphic programs. The bulk of the work occurs at the beginning and end of the school year with minimal work throughout the year).

  • Purchase disposable cameras for school use and develop pictures from cameras
  • Set-up and coordinate school picture day in early fall; assist on picture day as needed; organize sales and distribution of picture packets
  • Produce placemats for each student with pictures their classmates for the first week of school
  • Prepare and produce pictures for end of year celebration

Librarian

(This job is done weekly at school, usually on Friday afternoons; can also be done over a weekend).

  • Work closely with teachers to complement curriculum by having appropriate books available in the classrooms
  • Pull books to match the theme each week
  • Coordinate book repairs and replacement
  • Re-shelve books each week

Classroom Clean-up Coordinator and Maintenance

  • Coordinate each class cleanup during the year (4 total)
  • Send emails and call parents to remind them of the cleanup, coordinate clean-up tasks, and buy cleaning supplies, as well as set up coffee and donuts on day of class cleanup.
  • Oversee work on cleanup day- be there for the first half hour of the clean up to get everyone started
  • Check toilet paper, soap and paper towel supplies in bathrooms once a week and restock as necessary

Dress-up Maintenance

  • Oversee care, cleaning and maintenance of dress-ups
  • Pull out dress-ups at the beginning of the week, checking with teachers for appropriate theme
  • Return dress-ups to the proper bins
  • Take dress ups home every other month and wash them in hot water on gentle cycle

Babysitting Committee Chairperson

  • Organize committee members to provide babysitting for parents volunteering at school events or as requested by the President
  • Organize and publicize two babysitting nights/fundraisers during the school year

Babysitting Committee (4)

Provide childcare at school for PNS for parents volunteering for special events; required approximately once a month.

Fish/Animal Maintenance

(This job involves coming to the school on weekends and is a good match for someone who lives near the school).

  • Maintain fish tank weekly
  • Arrange for animal care during vacations and the summer
  • Assist teachers in caring for special animal visitors

Substitute Parent Coordinator/Communication Coordinator

(This job is usually a good match for someone who is available to substitute in classes on occasion, although it's not required).

  • Keep list of parents interested in being a paid substitute for other parents who have elected to buy out of their co-oping responsibilities
  • Determine dates substitutes are needed from class reps' co-op schedules and fill those dates with parents from the list
  • Inform teachers and Treasurer of parent substitutes
  • Find substitutes for teachers when necessary
  • Call the school roster to remind parents of upcoming special events

Play-Dough

  • Make play-dough weekly
  • Consult with teachers regarding color themes

Electronic Media Coordinator

(This job requires a home computer and web design skills).

  • Set up and maintain PNSall and class email lists
  • Set up reminders for PNS events via the email list
  • Update and maintain a PNS website

Promotion Coordinator

(A home computer and basic graphic design skills are helpful with this job).

  • Copy, collate and distribute newsletter each month
  • Place PNS ads in each issue of Partakes magazine
  • Place PNS ads in local newsletters and papers
  • Produce and distribute PNS open house flyers in December and January
  • Order sign to hang up outside of church to advertise student openings
  • Organize PNS participation in preschool fairs with VP, Membership

Lunch Bunch Coordinator

(This job is best for someone who is planning to participate in Lunch Bunch Program).

  • Organize Lunch Bunch sign up at the start of school
  • Collect money for lunch bunch each month
  • Record and tally payments and give the Assistant Treasurer each month

Packet Coordinator/Administrative Assistant

  • Produce parent folders for Back-to-School night and Spring Coffee with direction of VP of Membership/Forms
  • Produce parent folders for open house with VP, Membership/Enrollment
  • Assist board members with photocopying as needed

School Supplies Purchaser

(A membership to a wholesale club, such as B.J.'s, is useful for this job as it involves going to stores regularly).

  • Work closely with teachers to determine classroom supply needs
  • Order or directly purchase art, school, and cleaning supplies (purchases can be made by school check or reimbursement)
  • Complete orders for school equipment as needed
